Chief Operating Officer

Location: Fredericton, NB.

Significant changes facing the electricity sector present an opportunity for NB Power to transform its business with an emphasis on identifying opportunities for added efficiency, enhancing customer experience, ensuring energy security and promoting a sustainable clean energy transition. It is within this exciting context that NB Power is seeking an experienced leader for the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Reporting to NB Power’s President & CEO, the COO has accountability for the performance of all of NB Power’s non-nuclear utility assets including conventional and new generation, transmission, and distribution assets. The COO oversees NB Power’s critical capabilities including Project Delivery, Asset Management and Operations, ensuring alignment with NB Power’s objective to provide safe, reliable, and clean energy solutions.

Success will require a visionary leader with a strong business acumen who can foster a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and innovation in pursuit of operational excellence. You must be able to develop and execute long-term strategies that align with organizational goals while demonstrating operational leadership and expertise in areas such as engineering, procurement, project delivery and construction where a focus on cost, schedule, client satisfaction, and quality management is a must. You should demonstrate considerable skill in identifying, assessing and mitigating operational and strategic risks while maintaining significant focus on delivering exceptional customer service through efficient operations and innovative solutions.

As an ideal candidate, you bring a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field combined with a minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in operations, asset management, or a related field. NB Power will benefit from the 5+ years you have spent in an executive or senior management role and your demonstrable experience in managing large, unionized teams and complex systems in a regulated setting where there is a strong focus on operational excellence and cost optimization. An outstanding communicator, relationship builder and change leader, you are politically astute, agile, resilient and comfortable with ambiguity. A collaborative and inclusive leader, you are skilled at developing and leading teams that are united in a culture of continuous improvement and customer service excellence, responsive, and highly customer centric. A master’s degree and/or professional designation (e.g., P.Eng., MBA) is preferred as is experience in the energy or utilities sector.
