Saint John Corridor Project

Project Background:

NB Power must accelerate grid modernization efforts supporting electrification, integration of renewables, mitigating the impacts of climate change and improving New Brunswickers experience when it comes to electricity. We are committed to making the necessary investments now to ensure reliability of our electricity system in the future. We will also need to build our capacity to generate electricity in province so that we can ensure New Brunswickers have the power they need when they need it.

With this priority and the growing demand for electricity in the southern New Brunswick area there is a requirement for new transmission capacity.

The Saint John Corridor Project consists of a new 32 kilometre transmission line between the Coleson Cove terminal and existing transmission lines near the Glenn Falls area of Saint John, and an 8 kilometre radial transmission line between the Acamac area and the west side of Saint John near Reversing Falls.

Project Benefits:

This additional line will accelerate grid modernization efforts, improve reliability and would allow NB Power to continue advancements towards the clean energy roadmap.

Current Status:

NB Power is undergoing environmental field studies to gather baseline information on the existing environment in and near where the proposed project is to occur. The field studies include wildlife and wildlife habitat surveys, fish and fish habitat surveys, and wetland surveys where photos and notes will be taken.

The studies are conducted by trained biologists hired by NB Power which are often supported by a First Nations Field Monitor.

Baseline environmental data is being collected to support the potential of an additional transmission line; however, any new transmission line installation would be subject to regulatory review and approval.

NB Power expects to register an Environmental Impact Assessment with the provincial Department of Environment and Local Government in the spring of 2025.
